We love volunteers! Even one hour a week will help make a difference in the life of a homeless animal. Please stop by the Adoption Center to fill out a volunteer application. Volunteers must be 18 years old. Here are some of the volunteer opportunities available:

ARF is desperately seeking volunteers to walk dogs. Volunteers are needed every day to walk our resident dogs! Talk about rewarding work…If you have any time to spare to give to the animals, we promise you will get just as much out of it as they do. NEW: Shy Dog Socialization Program

This is NOT a dog walking program; volunteers will interact with the shy ARF dogs to help them get more comfortable around people. Classes are held Thursday afternoons from 1:30-2:30pm at the ARF Adoption Center in Wainscott. Click here for more information.

URGENTLY NEEDED: DOG WALKERS AT 9AM & 3PM DAILY

to walk dogs housed in the incoming quarantine areas.

QUARANTINE VOLUNTEER DOG WALKING ORIENTATION SCHEDULE

All volunteers (must be 18 years old) interested in walking the dogs housed in the incoming quarantine areas, must attend an orientation meeting prior to volunteering, followed by a dog handling course*.

The orientation meeting schedule is as follows:

December 7
January 4
February 1
March 1
April 5

All meetings will be held at the ARF Adoption Center at 3:00pm in the Conference room. *The dog handling course is given on Fridays at 1pm following the orientation earlier in the week. Please RSVP to Rita 631-537-0400 ext. 210 or rita@arfhamptons.org.

DOGS

  • Walk and socialize
  • Basic obedience training
  • Pet therapy – Bring dogs to nursing homes, day care centers, etc.
  • Bring dogs to ARF special events
  • Groom and bathe
  • Foster a dog in your home

CATS

  • Operation Cat – Be a caretaker for a feral cat colony
  • Socialize and bottle-feed young kittens in your home
  • Feed, groom and socialize cats and kittens at ARF
  • Clean cages and assemble litter boxes
  • Offsite adoptathons
  • Pet therapy – Bring cats to nursing homes, day care centers, etc.
  • Bring cats to ARF special events

ADOPTION CENTER

  • Conduct visitor tours
  • Office work (phones, mailings, computer work, etc.)
  • Community outreach and humane education
  • Special events

MOBILE ADOPTION VAN

  • Participate in 1/2 day or all day off-site adoptathons

ARF THRIFT & TREASURE SHOP

  • Sales
  • Store display and design
  • Mechandise sorting and pricing
  •  Learn more
